Our History

The Aureol Insurance Company Limited was incorporated in November 1986 following the cessation of business by the two British Insurance Companies, The Lion Insurance Company Limited (formerly Guardian Royal Exchange) and the Northern Assurance Company.  Both Companies finally decided to close down because of the massive devaluation which was announced by the Minister of Finance in his budget speech in June 1986.  


Aureol Insurance Company was registered as an Insurance Company under the 1971 Insurance Act. It is the first indigenous Public Liability Company in Sierra Leone. The Company started operations in 1987. It then had 11 Subscribers and 259 Ordinary Shareholders, all Sierra Leoneans.  It now has a total of 680 Shareholders.  Aureol Insurance Company is registered as an Insurance Company under the Sierra Leone Insurance Act of 2000. The company has a paid up capital in excess of Le 1.3 billion and assets of over Le 27.0 billion Leones. It is the first indigenous public liability company in Sierra Leone. The company is fully composite. This means that it underwrites all classes of business - i.e. General Insurance and Life Insurance.

​The day-to-day operations of the company are managed by a group of competent and highly qualified managers that are responsible for every aspect of the business. The management team is led by the Managing Director who is assisted by the General Manager. Having a structure and management team to drive such a dynamic company provides customers with the satisfaction and the guarantee that they expect from a company of Aureol's stature.
